Description:
Forecasts for the regions surrounding various Pacific Islands, including Hawai'i, Guam, Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands, have been developed by Brian Powell at the University of Hawaii as part of the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS). These forecasts are based on the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) with boundary conditions supplied by the global 1/12 degree HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM). Available observations collected over the previous 3-days are assimilated (e.g. HF radar, gliders, satellite data) to provide the "nowcast" for the current ocean conditions. For more model details, visit the PacIOOS modeling page.
